Harry Potter Party Inspiration

It’s that time of year again! September is nearly over and that means Halloween is just around the corner!
This year will mark our third year of the family Harry Potter Party. We add a few more details every year. Some people go all out and spare no expense, buying elaborate decor, but I prefer a homespun approach. I enjoy making things that my kids and grandkids can enjoy experiencing.

The last two years I’ve gone for a neutral and simple table.

Last year I added the mandrake, made from self-hardening clay with an aluminum foil base. The sorting hat was made with a cheap witches hat and hot-glued in specific places to look like its movie counterpart, then brushed over with diluted brown acrylic craft paint.

The food is always fun to make and we change it up every year.

We put our Monster Book of Monsters on a remote control base so the grandkids can drive it around!
And last year we added Olivander’s–made from a large cardboard box and some wood trim. We’re hoping to add Pottager’s Cauldron shop this year, if we have time to build it! Finger’s crossed!

We also added a photo booth last year with a mini instant printer that prints from your phone so everybody could grab a memory of the night. So fun!
