Transform a Cheap $6 Garland with Dried Oranges, Vintage Bells, and Velvet Ribbon
This project will take you some time to put together, but it’s worth the savings. I took a $6 cheap garland and turned it into this beauty with a few supplies:
To Make the Garland You Will Need:
- A 9 foot garland (or length of your choice) -I got mine at Hobby Lobby for 50% off, so it was only $6
- Two sprays of faux juniper, or other greenery (I got these 50% off too, so it was $7 for two
- Two sprays of pine (evergreen) – in the Christmas floral aisle, also 50% off, so two for $3
- I ordered the bells from amazon – $16 for 10 ($6.40 for 4)
- I ordered the velvet ribbon from amazon – $13 for 3 yards
- I had the pinecones but you can find them at craft stores and even walmart for around $5 a bag
- Five oranges, dehydrated – $4.50 with tax
- Wire cutters, floral wire and hot glue
Grand total = $54. 50 for the supplies (you might be able to find them for less. I wanted 10 bells for multiple projects, but you might be able to find a smaller bag, or use different bells that don’t cost as much. Same thing for ribbon.

First, I made my orange garland. You can see how I did that here. You don’t have to make a garland. You can wire individual oranges directly to your garland. This will give you more control over where you place them, and avoid having to try and hide the string. I did my oranges in a garland because it’s an activity that’s part of my Creative Advent series (a free email journey for staying present during the holidays). I decided to give that garland an additional function and show how it can be used for more elaborate projects.
This video will show you how I put this together.
