Story Behind the Music_New Year Song Trailer

Here’s a little introduction to my new single “New Year” which releases on 12.13.24–Why I wrote the song, and a few thoughts. Stay tuned for more holiday fun! Here’s a transcript of the video:

Hi, I’m Jen, and I wrote my soon-to-be-released single “New Year” 2 years ago. At the time, I was looking for a song to pair with a social media post and couldn’t find anything that captured the vibe or lyrical message I wanted–so as a songwriter, of course, I decided to write one myself. And I did, but it wasn’t the right time to record it and release it. So, I tucked it away…. until late October of this year, 2024, when I suddenly decided it needed to go out into the world. That didn’t leave me a lot of time, but we got it done and I’m so excited to share it with you!

This dance-pop song captures the headspace and emotion that many people move through approaching the end of each year–optimism for the future, reflection on the past, resolve to change, celebration and joy and energy.

I wrote New Year based on my personal experience–the busyness and complication of my own life and how those things have, more years than not, overshadowed my best life and the changes I wanted to make. How I let goals repeatedly fall through, but also recognizing that each year, and even each day, is a great time to pursue change in my life. It’s never too late to shift your course, pursue your passion, live your dreams, or become the best version of you that you can be.

Holiday traditions and celebrations help us approach these crossroads in our lives with support from friends, colleagues, neighbors and loved ones.
