My life is like the sea, constantly ebbing and flowing and changing in subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways. Though you wouldn’t probably guess it, I’m very much a free-spirit, so if an “expert” tells me I need to blog a certain way and I try and adhere to their advice, I get the same result. . .Every. Single. Time.
I’ve tried this blogging thing before. It’s always a fail for me. I realize it’s because I try and do it “the right way” every time, and I end up hating it. I need freedom to express what I want to express and share what I want to share without the stifling regulations that come with blogging “success”. If success doesn’t make you happy, is it really success?
So far on my blog I’ve focused on being consistent and methodical in my posting—a self-care article on Tuesdays followed by a creative or DIY post on Thursdays. Followed by my newsletter on Fridays. It has been exhausting, and not very satisfying creatively. But that’s what the experts say you’ve got to do–be consistent in topic, timing and tone. Well, I’m a human being and my tone changes from day to day. And as a free-spirited Creative I do much better posting some time during the week than on a specific day. I also do much better writing from a less “planned” and more authentic place when it comes to topic. You’d think I would have learned by now that when I do it “their” way, I’m never happy! So, it’s time to shift and honor my creative needs. This is my space. I’m paying for it. I’m creating it. I’m gonna do it my way. Cause if it doesn’t bring me joy, then why do it at all?
Hopefully, my thoughts and projects will inspire others to pursue their own creativity and honor themselves in a way that feels authentic. Here’s to charting your own path!
