During multiple times in my life I have been involved in some form of doll making. I started with designing wooden craft dolls with curly hair, painted faces, and fabric clothing, which I was able to consign in a local craft boutique in California for a time.
Then I graduated to full-blown cloth dolls with painted faces, hand-sewn hair, custom made clothing and handmade shoes. I even dabbled in clay sculpting dolls, but wasn’t very good. Later I got into re-making dolls. This is where you purchase a doll and then wipe the face clean with rubbing alcohol and re-paint the features and make custom clothing for it.
Please keep in mind that I took these images long before I learned photography so they aren’t the best. Here was my first attempt at this type of doll.
Second doll. Maid Marion, sold almost immediately on ebay!
My last doll of this kind. I think I tried a little harder on the photography!
So there you have it, a little trip down creative memory lane. What are some interesting projects you’ve done over the years?
