I mentioned in my post about my journey learning to draw that I was taking drawing lessons because I want to develop some competent free-hand drawing skills. I’m doing an online, learn-at-your-own-pace course from Will Kemp Art School. I purchased his absolute beginners drawing course.
Yesterday I started the lesson on tonal ground sketching. Here is my pomegranate. I used the reference provided for the class to draw from as I did not have a pomegranate on hand.
Today I drew my assignment using a real pepper. I was a little nervous how it would turn out, but felt encouraged with the results.
Also today I did a negative space drawing. On this exercise you draw from a reference photo and use a picture plane to check your work. I was actually surprised with how well my eye was able to judge distance and space. Definitely not perfect, but far better than I expected!
I’m excited to keep going.
