Hi, there! I’m Jen. I’m glad you’re here.
I grew up in Northern California, but my granddaddy grew up in Tennessee writing songs, playing guitar, and singing country music with his band. My Aunt, on the other side of the family, sang in Hollywood and her husband, my uncle, played piano for the Tommy Dorsey band, so I guess you could say music is in my blood.
My earliest memory with music is singing my own melodies and words into a little hand-held tape player in the hallway of our home, but to my mom’s dismay, my older brother later recorded over those priceless creations with Michael Jackson’s hit “Beat it”. However, I’m not so sure how priceless they’d actually sound to any ear but a mother’s!
I didn’t actually start writing music until I was about 15, and from then on it would become a lifeline for me. I went through several decades of some pretty tough stuff and music helped me cope.
I love how a song can say what the heart so often can’t put into words. It’s such a fulfilling process to translate emotion and experiences and put them to music. It’s a huge part of who I am.
I’m a firm believer in living from the heart. It drives all of my creative pursuits. And I think it’s key to fulfilling potential and dreams, but definitely not always easy to follow.
Because I’ve had to grapple through the healing of betrayal trauma, various forms of abuse, loss of self-worth, health issues, divorce, remarriage, and blending a family of six kids, I feel I have something authentic to say about hope, life, love, courage and even God. We all have a story, and I share mine because it gives people hope. We all just need to know that it’s gonna be okay. And we all need to celebrate victories, love and life!
Thanks for stopping by!
