Christmas Decorative Painting & Self-Acceptance

When I was a young mom I did a TON of decorative painting!  Especially at Christmas time.  Each year, for a few years, I painted a Santa on wood for someone: my parents, my in-laws, my neighbor, my mentor, but never one for my home.  It’s been over a decade since the last time I picked up my brushes and did some decorative painting.  This year I decided it was time to reconnect with that part of myself and paint a Santa for my home, in the colors of my Christmas décor.

Like anything we don’t do for a long time, I found certain aspects of the process challenging.  My shading and detail skills have suffered most, but in the end, I was content with my results.  I am where I am in all things.  It has taken me a long time to get to the point where I can look at my work and know I did my best and be content. Perfectionism is a brutal taskmaster.  It’s okay to just do what you do how you do it.  And then share it, even if you know it could or might be better in some way.  Be you and love it.
